Abstract

The phase locking of a two-dimensional laser array through beam control in the far field of the emitters was discussed. A self-imaging confocal resonator was used in which the far-field pattern of the emitters were formed at the output mirrors. Compared to the Talbot resonator, the far-field approach involves simpler beam profile and dose not rely on having a large number of emitters in periodic structure. The results from the laser array and computer simulation for an annular array indicates that beam control in the far field can result in higher feedback efficiency and higher tolerance to deviations from periodic structure.
